Powerful Patroness of the Unborn

Powerful Patroness of the Unborn

Human Sacrifice

Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego on December 12, 1531. Out of fear and despair, the Aztecs had been practicing a cruel and gruesome form of human sacrifice by cutting out the living victims' hearts in order to appease their gods. Through the power of the image Our Lady of Guadalupe left on Juan Diego's tilma, 9 million Aztecs converted to the loving God and the truth of the Catholic faith. This miracle freed an entire culture of people bound by a culture of death.

In the world today, we pray for the powerful intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe to bring an end to the cruel and gruesome form of human sacrifice - that of abortion. Living children are being torn apart limb from limb within the womb of their mother. The pain they experience is unspeakable. They may not be intentionally sacrificed to a god, but many times the decision to kill the child is born out of fear and despair.

The Serpent

Our Lady of Guadalupe means, "The One Who Crushes the Serpent". When the serpent tempted Eve in the garden, he used two tactics. First, the devil said, "You will not die" Genesis 3:4, tempting her to deny God's Commandment and doubt the punishment for sin, thereby making an evil choice seem good, like progress. Then the serpent said, "God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Genesis 3:5. The devil will try to make an evil choice seem intriguing and beautiful, all so that we will fall in disobedience and refuse to acknowledge the authority of God over creation. Satan exults himself over God and promotes self-will.

Our Lady of Guadalupe crushes sin and evil with a humble spirit of obedience by submitting to God's will. God's teachings and Commandments are given to us for our happiness, salvation and protection. The intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary is extremely powerful against Satan because she was conceived without Original Sin and chose to obey God, therefore sin and evil cannot touch her. Our Lady of Guadalupe is our merciful mother. We are under her shadow and protection, in the hollow of her mantle, in the crossing of her arms.

A Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe

Virgin of Guadalupe,
Patroness of unborn children,
we implore your intercession
for every child at risk of abortion.
Help expectant parents to welcome from God
priceless gift of their child’s life.

Console parents who have lost that gift
and lead them to forgiveness and healing
through the Divine Mercy of your Son.

Teach us to cherish
and to care for family and friends
until God calls them home.
Help us never to see others as burdens.

Guide our public officials
to defend each and every human life
through just laws.
Inspire us all to bring our faith into public life,
to, speak for those who have no voice.

We ask this in the name of your Son,
Jesus, Christ, who is Love and Mercy itself.
