by Heather Collins
Pope Francis announced on May 4th, 2017, that the Capuchin Friar from Michigan will be named "Blessed". The miracle of an instant healing of an incurable skin disease that a women received after praying at Fr. Solanus' tomb, has met the requirements for his beatification. Fr. Solanus Casey also suffered from a skin disease which caused his death in 1957.
Fr. Solanus was a humble doorkeeper at Sacred Heart in Yonkers New York for 20 years. He was then assigned to St. Bonaventure Monastery in Detroit for another 20 years, where people sought his counsel and the sick began to be cured. Fr. Solanus had a deep devotion to the Holy Eucharist.
“Worry is a weakness from which very few of us are entirely free. We must be on guard against this most insidious enemy of our peace of soul. Instead, let us foster confidence in God, and thank Him ahead of time for whatever He chooses to send us.” Venerable Solanus Casey
